E.R. Lilley Photography is two people. Ed is the photographer and printer and Sue is the magician who makes his prints look good and manages the business. We are a team working together over the 50 plus years of our marriage.
Ed studied to be a "Space Physicist". He went to the Univ. of Alaska (BS and MS) and then to the Univ. of Alberta. Prior to marrying Sue in 1966 he couldn't afford a camera but entering Grad school he finally bought one. He was also introduced to the joys of the darkroom. He was hooked!
After 9 years of University both Ed and Sue realized they were not cut out to work in a bureaucratic environment. With their first son they quit Academia and went out to become professional photographers. It is a long story but they established a Portrait/Wedding/Event business in Alberta in 1974. After a few years they got homesick for New England (both are from Connecticut) and moved to Cape Cod and opened a new studio. It was very successful! Ed was very active in Professional Photography Associations [ppa's} and served as president of the PPA of Cape Cod, PPA of Massachusetts, and PPA of New England. He is a Master-Craftsman degree holder from the PPA of America and a Master of Photographic Arts from the PPA of Canada.
Ed always loved nature. On one vacation to Florida he saw a bird he didn't recognize, bought a bird book and the rest is history. Birds became a passion.
A few years ago Ed and Sue retired from the day to day business of studio photography. Some years earlier Sue had opened an Art Gallery which has done very well. We marketed our scenic and nature images through the Gallery. They also bought a condo in Clearwater, FL and now divide their time between two beautiful locations.
We sincerely hope you like our images and we hope you will order them. We have always said they if you don't like what you see when you get them we will gladly refund your money! This has been our business policy for all of our years in business.
Since the beginning Ed has printed most of our images in our own color lab. With the advent of digital photography he continued to print his own work on the latest in Digital printers. This dramatically keeps our costs down which we pass on to our customers.
We started this website to more fully market our images. We are different from most other photographers because we are only interested in selling prints (with a few exceptions). We intentionally don't offer framing and mounting because it drastically raises the price you would have to pay for the images and greatly increase the cost of shipping the finished product to you.
If you want the images frame we recommend you go to a professional framer or buy stock frames from a frame store or a website like www.frameusa.com, which has excellent prices and a great variety. [We don't get a commission.]
